Growing Through The Dirt

Trees grow through dirt. Dirt doesn’t stop them from growing. It provides the raw material to help them grow. In fact, without dirt, there is no growth.

Likewise, God often uses the difficult things in our lives to grow us. In the Old Testament, there is hardly anyone who experienced more trouble than Joseph. He was sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused of rape, and imprisoned for years. Despite this, he was able to face his brothers and say, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20)

At some point, you’re going to have some dirt thrown at you. Even worse, like Joseph, you might find yourself feeling like you’ve been buried alive or imprisoned.

The key to growing through dirt is your attitude. At some point, you must decide to trust God through the process. We can’t always decide what happens to us, but we can always decide our response.

Allow the daily dirt you encounter to fuel your capacity to grow deep roots and to learn to overcome what’s thrown at you. The promise we have from scripture is this, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Whatever you’re facing don’t give up! There’s a reward just on the other side of your perseverance.
