  • Disappointments to Turning Points

At some point, you're going to find yourself disappointed with life circumstances. It could be a job that you didn't get or a promotion that you thought you earned or a relationship that went south that you thought was on solid ground. It's during these moments that we have to drop back and get our footing again.

If we aren't careful these moments will make us question God's love and care for us. Several years ago when I was a freshman in college I had one of these moments. I was working for a company and was in management and was doing pretty good for a guy in college. My plan was to work my way through nursing school and then go on to medical school to be a doctor. It was all good until I had an accident at work. It was actually a freak thing that happened and no one was hurt. By all accounts, it should not have been a game-changer. However, I was fired for it. To be honest, I was devastated because I spent three years working for this company. To say I was disappointed in how the situation was handled was an understatement.

As it turned out, about this same time the Lord would call me to full-time ministry and he led me to a small bible college in central Florida where I would apply over the summer and get accepted. Looking back, the Lord allowed this disappointment in my life because in the process he removed everything that might have held me back. In the end, this disappointment became a turning point in my life. I ended up marrying my wife in school and we went into full-time ministry and we are still married 24 years later. What I thought was a disappointment turned out to be one of the defining moments of my life.

God can turn your disappointments into turning points when you trust him.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

If you're facing disappointment today, then lean into God and give it to him. He can your disappointment into a turning point if you will trust him!
